I’m sure that if you’re into your design and especially your fonts you sometimes wonder what font it is you’re looking at because you want to use it for your own site or work.
The frustrating thing though is that there are tens of thousands of them out there – it’d be like looking through the phone book (the old fashioned paper type) knowing only the first name and town. The truth is, you’re highly unlikely to find it.
Well, I faced such a dilema this morning. I had created the logo for this site so long ago I had forgotten what font I had used, and it certainly wasn’t on my machine anymore. Using another font wasn’t really an option because I like the dynamic nature of the R on Running which I use as an icon on twitter.
After a bit of hunting, I found a great site that lets you upload an image, or the url to the image, and it will try to hunt the font down for you from the shapes in the letters. Great! Gave it a go, and it worked. All I needed to do was fill in some of the letters it couldn’t identify, but other than that worked first time, and I’ve managed to download the font.
What font was it? Matura MT Script Capitals.
